How to compare two versions of a PDF contract

The other party sends “the final version” of the contract. Did they change a clause? Comparing both PDFs takes one minute.

Why compare before signing?

A single changed word — a date, an amount, “may” instead of “must” — can change the meaning of a contract. Reading 20 pages twice is tiring and unreliable; an automatic comparison finds everything.

Compare two PDFs

  1. Open Compare PDF.
  2. Add the old version first, then the new version.
  3. Read the differences: deleted words in red, added words in green, side by side.
  4. Download the comparison report if you want to share it.

What to check first

  • Amounts, prices and payment terms
  • Dates, durations and notice periods
  • Obligations (“must”, “shall”) and exclusions (“except”, “unless”)
  • Names of the parties and signatories

Scanned contracts

The comparison is based on text. If one version is a scan, run OCR PDF on it first.

Then sign safely

Once you agree with the final version, sign it with Sign PDF. Your documents stay on your device from start to finish.
