Is Helpdf really free?
Yes. All tools are free, with no account, no watermark and no daily limit. The site is funded by advertising and by optional donations.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool runs inside your web browser: your files are read and transformed on your own device and never sent to us or to anyone else.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up. Even your saved workflows are stored only in your browser.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Because processing happens on your device, the only limit is its memory. Very large files (several hundred MB) work best on a computer.
Does Helpdf work on my phone?
Yes. Helpdf works in the browser of any iPhone, iPad or Android device, without installing an app. You can even scan documents with your camera.
Which file formats are supported?
PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .csv, .ods), PowerPoint (.pptx), images (JPG, PNG, WebP) and HTML.
Can I use Helpdf offline?
Once a tool page is loaded, the processing happens locally. You still need an internet connection to open the page and, for OCR, to download the language model the first time.
Why does my scanned PDF have no selectable text?
A scan is an image of the text. Run OCR PDF to recognize the text and make it searchable.
Can Helpdf open a PDF whose password I forgot?
No. Unlock PDF removes a password you know. Helpdf does not crack passwords.
Is the conversion to Word or Excel perfect?
Text, paragraphs and tables are rebuilt, but complex layouts (magazines, multi-column brochures) may need small adjustments.
Which browsers are supported?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Samsung Internet.
